Released on 15th July 2015

Based at cohealth’s new state of the art clinic at the Laverton Hub, Dr Heather Dowd says she is very excited to be looking after the health of the Laverton community.

“The Laverton Hub is an excellent, modern facility and the pride of the community, so it’s great to be here and I’m looking forward to meeting people from all walks of life”, Dr Dowd said.

Dr Dowd is a GP with over 20 years experience working in Melbourne’s west.

“I love the Western suburbs – the diversity of the population makes for dynamic and very satisfying work.”

Dr Dowd has worked in cohealth’s Footscray, Braybook and West Footscray integrated GP clinics.

“The one-stop-shop model of community-based health care offers a lot for treating people with complex health issues, and this approach promotes good health and well-being.”

“At the clinic, people can see a GP and also access podiatry services, Vision Australia low vision clinics, and Dorevitch pathology services.”

As well as providing general health care, Dr Dowd has interests in youth health, mental health and shared ante-natal care with Werribee hospital.

“The cohealth clinic will focus on prevention and early intervention services, and chronic disease management.”

Over time the clinic will develop the range of health services on offer together in line with the needs of the Laverton community, including families, children, and people who are vulnerable to poor health.
